What Customers Say About Coby CX90BLK Digital Pocket AM/FM Radio, Black:

the only reason i bought this thing was so i could listen to talk radio while i'm at work. I've seen people on here complain about the battery life but i haven't had a problem with it. My work often takes me out into the middle of the woods, FAR FAR away from any type of radio/cell phone tower er whatever and i still get the stations that i want to hear. Usually my cellphone will lose signal and i'll have no service on it, however, the radio still functions great. I've listened to it almost every day for a month and haven't changed the batteries once. Sweet radio.

I took a chance on this "off brand" radio - and it was a huge mistake. I wonder how long exactly the mfg. I should have heeded the warnings in these reviews about it being TOO LOUD at the lowest volume setting. IT IS.Yes, can you imagine it not been fixed the moment the first one came off the assemble line. in China has been making this POS knowing the volume control is just about useless. You get what you pay for - the name on it is COBY.

10 hours on a device is too short for my normal usage. I thought I had a dud device, but when I changed the rechargeable batteries with the 1.5V normal alkaline batteries it was working just fine.I needed a portable radio so that I can listen to my news talk radio when I'm nowhere near my computer or in my car. It needs batteries that are 1.5V and rechargeable batteries have voltages that are lower than 1.5V. Something handy if you're using this device in the dark or in a place with dim lighting. Initially I had placed 2 AA rechargeable batteries with 1.2V each in this device and it was not working correctly.

The sound quality is not too bad. So what I do is adjust the volume to around 12 and place this device on the table for easy listening radio on my desktop. My gripe is that the buttons are too similar and it is easy to press the wrong button. I listen to the radio in the mornings and in the evenings.

I've had this radio for about a month now and it is still going with the original 2 AA batteries. I am glad that I have bought this portable radio because it is a great deal for the price. I never need to adjust the volume louder than 1 because with headphones it is loud enough. The battery life was my number one concern that I was looking at when deciding my purchase. Once any button is pressed, the back light comes on for approximately 7 secs. NOTE: Be aware that this device will not work on rechargeable batteries.

It's a little annoying. Weighing at just 0.3 Lbs it is highly portable that fits in my shirt pocket. I was concerned whether this product was worth buying or if I should have spent the extra money on the Sangean DT-180 AM / FM Pocket Receiver with a longer battery life. I'm using a cheap $2 headphone and the quality is good. The volume allows you to adjust the loudness level from 1 to 16.

Sometimes I get headaches if I use headphones for a long period of time.

The LCD screen is a good size at W 7/8" x H 7/8" clearly displaying presets, channel, and volume level.

I think this radio is worth the price.

But this device amazes me.

It's a handy portable device that serves its purpose.

This device serves its purpose.

With a click of a button located on the right it will display the clock, which is a handy feature.

There are numerous times when I wanted to change the band, but end up pressing the save preset button instead.

I have no regrets buying this product.

This radio is small, lightweight, and pretty good looking. Overall I am pleased with the radio. It's also really simple and easy to use. I work in a large building and have had reception trouble with other radios, but I have found that this radio picks up pretty decent reception (could be better). It was worth the low price and the only downfall is the battery life. It seems that the batteries only last about ten hours or so, but some rechargeable batteries will help this problem.

Other volume control enabled ear buds may be available that could work. Imagine my surprise when I saw this little beauty hanging on a shelf in Academy Sports Store. Well, I fired off a note to Coby hoping for a cure or workaround for the problem. I could even increase the radio to 3 or 4 bars and cut it back to a comfortable listening level. I'm pretty sure they came with my HP laptop as they have the HP emblem on the ear pieces. The digital controls worked well, and it was easy to set up the Memory with preset stations (and plenty of them). After getting it home and trying it out I was pleasantly surprised to hear a pretty good sound even with the ear buds provided.

It was then I found the serious flaw in this product - the lowest volume level is too high for comfortable listening (and I have been accused of being a bit hard of hearing). I started reading reviews here and saw others had the same complaint. I thought a digital portable radio with preset stations would be a great product, but hadn't seen any on the market. Sure enough, I hooked them up and slid the volume to low, and viola. the sound was quite low. Unfortunately, I don't have any model info on the ear bud set. Overall, this radio is a nice bit of technology at a good price. The hanging loop is a nice bit of langiappe also - I like being able to hang it around my neck when walking the Maltese pups.

Well, of course I picked one up right away, especially when I saw it was less than $15. I wanted to get this out to all you folks so a good product could be useful in all respects. Then looking thru my electronic gear, I came across a set of ear buds that had a VOLUME Control included - a small slide switch on the wires. I thought could it be. (the 'Preset' control could use a two way capability so you can tune previous as well as next stations), but you can 'Tune' back to a previous station to accomplish this function.
